Just mad I tell ya!

In Dubai, UAE there was news that a white shark, apparently an endangered species, was caught and being held in the Atlantis Aquarium. They claimed that it was "rescued" off the coast of Dubai. (Story here)

Well recent news would have it, that the government has ordered Atlantis to free the shark. Yippee for the Shark, I guess. Nothing like bad publicity for Atlantis and Dubai...

If you would like to check out the inside of the now famous hotel Atlantis, based on the Palm Jumeirah, Dubai, please see my lovely sister Nadia's inside view.

Ok, so now that you have the inside scoop... you JUST HAVE TO check out the recent news.

Dubai is throwing a multi-million-dollar extravaganza on Thursday to launch a luxury hotel on an artificial palm-shaped island, despite the bite from the global financial crisis.

More than 2,000 world celebrities are due to attend the event which has been dubbed by the local press as "the party of the decade."

Talk show queen Oprah Winfrey, actors Robert De Niro and Denzel Washington, and former basketball great Michael Jordan are expected to walk the red carpet at the 1.5-billion-dollar "Atlantis, The Palm" hotel.

The evening will peak with a fireworks display that will be "seven times larger than this year's Olympic Games opening ceremony" in Beijing and will be "visible from space", according to the event organisers.

A TWENTY MILLION DOLLAR "extravanganza," which was elsewhere reported as 35 million! (Full story here)

UH - what? WASTE MONEY MUCH?

Nevermind those without even bread or lights in Gaza, or the millions of poor and/or suffering brothers and sisters in Egypt, Somalia, Afghanistan, India, Pakistan...

No - let's party like it was 1999!

OH! And the icing on the cake? The co- owner and organizer of this hotel and event: Sol Kerzner, a Jewish businessman that is in PARTNERSHIP with Arab sheikhs who rule this Gulf emirate.

Ha. Now I have heard it all!

Geesh, big deal... an even BETTER party at my house! Excellent food, good sisters who are gathered in a laid back, cool atmosphere coupled with some hilarious laughs and you've got the ultimate party! How pretentious those people are... LOL

I was reading through Sis.Nadia's posting about the Atlantis in Dubai, and she mentioned somewhere that because of the dress code, she had to sit on the side and watch others in the water park!! Isn't Mr.Kerzner's hotel in a Muslim country?? Weird.

We have an Atlantis here too by Kerzner in the Bahamas which the one in Dubai is a replica of. I took my sisters to the water park there recently, and we were able to play on their water slides in full hijaab and dress. Just had to close our eyes a little from all those half-naked people lounging around ha ha.

I don't know about sol krezner, but I know that dubai has done a lot for the arab/muslim world, and it has raised funds like no one else. they need publicity and need to be OUT there, their a metropolitan city and that's the way you get ON the map :)

SubhanAllah sis Nourah, there are many places here in Egypt also that women are NOT allowed to wear extra clothes! Imagine that in Bahamas it is allowed and not in these "supposed" Muslim countries!

Sis Mona - I dont know really, it is like whoever makes a huge project some other man has to come along and prove his is bigger. LOL sounds like kindergarten. Little do they know that men competing in the desert to build large towers is a sign of the Day of Judgement.

Ameen to your duaa sis Jamilah and HM

Sis Nyxxie, welcome to my blog!

I dont know, does Dubai really need to find more ways to "get on the map" Actally the place is being more like a freaky side show. It's like I am waiting for something to suddenly fall apart there...

At any rate, Im sure there is better things they can do for the Muslim community then having a 20 million dollar fireworks display.
